Lemme introduce u to the newest contributor….the best of my friends Ramya (aka Rums) and her very first recipe here..for the all-time-favourite ‘Chole’ with a twist in her own style..she made it for a potluck in my house and it was definitely the highlight of the day..no wonder i had to bug her for the recipe rite from then on.. so here we go.. from Rum’s kitchen.. Chole recipe…

Chole Recipe

Ingredients

Chole (Channa/Chickpeas) – one pack (250 gms)

Onions – 2 or 3 large ones

Tomatoes – 4 juicy ones

Aloo (Potato) – a large one

Bayleaf/Cinnamon/Cloves – one or two each

Ginger-Garlic Paste – 1/2 tsp

Turmeric Pwder – 1/2 tsp

Jeera (Cumin Seeds) – 1/2 tsp


Garam Masala Powder – 1/2 tsp

Chole Powder (Channa Masala) – 1/2 tsp

Red Chili Powde – 1/2 tsp

Green Chillies 2 – chopped fine

Asafoatida – one pinch

Salt to taste

Oil to saute



Method



Soak channa overnight in water. Drain the water and pressure cook with salt.

Grind the cut tomatoes, coriander leaves, ginger garlic paste, cloves and green chillies and keep aside. Boil cubed potatoes either on the stove or microwave it for 5 minutes.

In a pan, add lots of oil, saute jeera, asafoetida, turmeric, bayleaf and cinnamons.

Fry the onions till golden brown.

Now add the ground paste and keep stirring.

Once it settles, add the channa masala and then the rest of the powders with a little salt.

Cover with a lid and let it cook on a low flame.

Make sure all the ingredients are mixed well and the flavor is uniform.

Bring to a boil, add the potato and then the chole slowly, the required salt, keep stirring.

Close the pan again and cook for atleast 10 minutes.



Garnish with cut tomato pieces and coriander leaves and serve hot! Ooh la la!

    My chole masala has never lived to the expectation of Sriram.. he always had something that didn' let him like it..
    I will give this recipe a try and lemme see if it wins his heart 😀
