It is mango season alrite! But hey this one is from my (surprise!) MIL’s kitchen! She is well-known for her culinary abilities and i sure took good advantage of it. One of Brat’s favourite from his mom’s cooking, i learnt it from her for him, yes my mom makes this one too but its a different style (more kerelan) which i ll reserve for another post! So here it is mango pachadi from my MIL’s kitchen 🙂
Mango Pachadi Recipe
Raw or half-ripe mango – a biz sized one, cut into huge chunks
Green chillies – 3 to 4
Jaggery – Close to a handful
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tbsp
Asoefatida – a pinch
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves – a few
Oil – two tsp
Salt to taste
Add two tsp oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds, allow to pop, add curry leaves and slit green chillies and saute.
Add the cut mango pieces and saute. Now add some water, salt and turmeric powder, let it cook.
Mix in the jaggery making sure it dissolves well in the pachadi, bring to a boil.
Add the asoefatida and bring to a boil one last time.
This is tangy in itself and doesnt require u to add any tamarind paste to it!
