Finally i am here with one of my own recipes.. coconut thogayal is my all time favourite.. there is nothing like a home-cooked rasam, thogayal and javarasi vadam combo! This one i learnt from my mom and i pride in making it as good as her.. there are many variations to this, one with more dal in it (which i love!) and one with more coconut in it (which i am posting here) that is more common as an instant side dish in times of need at any South Indian household..
My mom also adds some veggies or other healthy ingredients (which she doesnt reveal to me) so that the thogayal serves more healthy than it actually is, at the same time things kids dont normally eat will get into their system blended in the thogayal, while the other ingredients over shadow the taste they don like…i am guessing the roasted dals in the recipe helps give it that extra smell and taste that beats anything …So here it is …Coconut Thogayal from my kitchen for a change 🙂
Thenga (Coconut) Thogayal
Ingredients
Coconut – 1/2 cup – grated
Chenna dal – 4 to 5 tsp
Urud dal – 2 to 3 tsp
Tamarind paste – 1/4 tsp
Red chillies – 2 to 3
Oil – 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
In a kadai, heat the oil, roast the dals, tamarind paste and red chillies till light brown.
Turn off the flame and add the coconut.
Grind with a little water in a mixer.
Increase dal and reduce coconut to make it a Parupu (dal) Thogayal!
That is an interesting recipe,I followed you from the foodieblogroll and I'd love to guide our readers to your site if you won't mind.Just add your choice of foodista widget to this post and it's all set to go, Thanks!
